World’s oldest Husqvarna robotic lawn mower competition
In 1995, Husqvarna introduced what is believed to be the world’s first commercial robotic lawn mower, known as the Husqvarna Solar Mower. To celebrate three decades of robotic mowing, we launched a competition to find the world’s oldest Husqvarna robotic lawn mower still at work. The response was overwhelming. Thousands of submissions poured in, with owners sharing stories of mowers that had reliably mowed lawns across Europe for decades.

Built in 1995 and still going strong in 2025
Long before apps and AI entered our gardens, Husqvarna launched a robotic lawn mower that could operate on its own. 30 years after our Husqvarna Solar Mower revolutionised lawn care forever, one of those originals is still going strong. We found it in Motala, Sweden, and it has now been crowned the world’s oldest Husqvarna robotic lawn mower. Meet the winner in our competition and discover the story of lasting innovation.

We have a winner
The world’s oldest Husqvarna robotic lawn mower was discovered in Motala, Sweden, at the home of Ingemar Carlsson. He became interested in the Husqvarna Solar Mower back in 1995 after reading about it in a newspaper, and thanks to a lucky conversation with a Husqvarna dealer at a Christmas party, he got his hands on one. It then mowed his lawn flawlessly for over a decade, sparking curiosity from neighbours who had never seen anything like it.
After a major garden makeover, Ingemar let the mower take a long and well-deserved rest. When Husqvarna’s competition was launched, he entered his old lawn care partner, and it turned out it was still going strong. Congratulations to Ingemar and a mower that truly proves what it means to be built to last.
